Storm shelters in Moore, OK
Moore has a dedicated storm shelter permit application, and its city limits cross into both Cleveland and Oklahoma counties.
Permits in Moore
- Moore uses a specific Storm Shelter Permit Application, filed through the GovBuilt portal. Inspections Division: 301 N Broadway, 405-793-5051 (City of Moore Permits & Inspections).
- The application asks for the shelter location (garage, backyard, in-house, side or front yard), estimated cost, whether the lot touches a 100 or 500 year flood zone, and installer details. It states the installer performs third-party inspections to meet FEMA minimums and that work must follow FEMA-approved plans (Moore shelter permit application PDF).
- Outdoor shelters need a site plan with lot lines, setbacks, utilities, easements and flood zone boundaries (same source).
Register your shelter
- Moore's permit application has a built-in Shelter Registration section: an emergency contact outside the shelter, how many people it holds, supplies, and medical needs (same PDF). Fill it in carefully, it is what responders use.
Tip: If you rent, the Moore application asks for tenant details too, and the owner must give permission.
Costs
Published metro prices run roughly $3,300 to $15,000 installed depending on type and size. See the sourced cost table.
